• PDP’s Ozigbo suspends campaign over killings
Ebonyi State governor, Dave Umahi and his Imo State counterpart, Hope Uzodinma, are leading other chieftains of the All Progressives Congress, APC, governorship campaign today in Anambra State

The event will hold at the All Saints Cathedral Anglican Church, Onitsha.

Others expected despite the security challenges in the state include ministers, other governors from different zones, senators and other lawmakers.

The Nation gathered that the party would use the opportunity to present legion of defectors from other political parties in the state

The Chairman of the APC in the state, Sir Basil Ejidike, told The Nation yesterday in Awka that the party was good to go and take over Anambra State in the November 6 governorship election.

He said it was the reason APC leadership met with the 326 ward chairmen, women leaders and secretaries on Friday night to brief them on the need for adequate sensitization at the grassroots

Ejidike said the party had done enough in making sure the election would be won by APC in November fair and square

The governorship candidate of the party, Senator Andy Uba, while addressing the APC members, said only God makes kings, adding that he was ready to end the suffering of his party members who had suffered untold hardship in the state for almost 16 years.

Meanwhile, the Peoples Democratic Party’s governorship candidate in Anambra State, Valentine Ozigbo, has temporarily suspended his campaign rallies.

His campaign organisation’s Media and Communications Director, Aziza Uko,in a statement said Ozigbo cited the rising spate of killings in the state as reason for the suspension.

“In the past few days, we have witnessed an alarming escalation of deadly violence in Anambra.

“We lost an eminent son and several others in what appears to be a renewed violent campaign by bandits.

“Yesterday, a prominent Nigerian public servant, medical doctor, and a stalwart of PDP, Lawrence Ezenwa, was killed in Nnewi South Local Government Area of the state.

“Ezenwa, who is from Abia, was visiting his wife’s village, Ukpo in Nnewi South, when he met his demise. His driver was also shot and killed.

“On the same day, a vehicle belonging to a federal lawmaker, Rep. Chris Azubogu, was attacked and his driver killed in cold blood.

“As a leader, I find the latest violence disturbing and condemnable and I call for a stop to all acts of violence, particularly against the innocent.

“Due to this development and in line with my belief that no life is worth anybody’s ambition, I suspended all my campaign rallies and public appearances scheduled for this week.
