The Presidential Candidate of the Labour Party, Mr. Peter Obi, has declared Economist and Educationist, Yusuf Datti Baba Ahmed as his Presidential running mate.

Sen. Datti Baba-Ahmed is the founder of Baze University, Abuja and was announced as the LP vice-presidential candidate in Abuja on Friday.

He represented Kaduna North in the Senate under the Congress for Progressives Change between 2011and 2012. He was also a member of the House of Representatives from 2003 to 2007. In 2011, while most Norther candidates were printing their posters along with the pictures of Buhari to attrack votes, he was one of the radically different few who ran on their own steam and self worth politically.

The website of the Baze university indicates that, Baba-Ahmed has a BSc and an MSc in Economics from the University of Maiduguri, an MBA from the University of Wales, Cardiff.

Baba-Ahmed completed his PhD at the University of Westminster in 2006.

He did his National Youth Service at the University of Agriculture Abeokuta, Ogun state, as Projects Co-Ordinator, Baze Research and Data Services Ltd, and as Officer II in the Nigerian Security Printing and Minting Company, Lagos.

His work experience shows that the running mate worked as a Banking Officer with First Bank of Nigeria Plc from July 1997 to Dec 1998.

Later, he became the Managing Director of Baze Research and Data Services Ltd in July 1999 – January 2003.

In 2019, Datti Baba Ahmed ran as a Presidential Aspirant under the People’s Democratic Party at the Presidential Primariries Convention of the party in Port Harcourt.

Baba-Ahmed’s announcement came barely 24 hours after the Director-General, Peter Obi Campaign Organisation, Doyin Okupe, announced his withdrawal as the vice-presidential candidate of the party.

Okupe who announced his withdrawal via his verified Twitter handle @doyinokupe noted that his party would announce the new running mate to the presidential candidate.

“This afternoon I submitted my withdrawal letter from the position of the Vice Presidential candidate of the Labour Party to INEC. A replacement will be announced by d national chairman of d party shortly. I feel greatly blessed to have been part of the foundation of success 4 the LP,” Okupe tweeted.

Like the ruling All Progressives Congress, the Labour party had named Okupe as the interim vice presidential candidate of the LP in order to beat the deadline by the Independent National Electoral Commission.
