CAF Confederation Cup debutants Abia Warriors were on the verge of making history on Sunday when Obioama Chukwuemeka gave the home team a first half goal against regulars, Djoliba AC of Mali at the Nest of Champions, Uyo.

The 21st minute goal for Abia Warriors lasted into the 80th minute when fans believed the team had secured a heroic 3- point win. However, an 88th minute equalizer from Djoliba AC brought a devastating atmosphere at the Nest of Champions.

As the team looks forward to a second leg in Bamako on 28th September 2025, Coach Imama Amapakabo assured that his team will remain positive for victory and finish the continental preliminary stage strong.

“Unfortunately, this is not the result we all wanted. It is my job and responsibility to motivate them. I am a very optimistic person. All we have to do is to look forward and be able to say these are the things to do right. We will throw our cards on the table.” Coach Amapakabo affirmed.

Similarly, Augustin Njoku, Abia Warriors captain, told Nigerian fans to believe in his team, and they will definitely get a result in Mali.
