Alhaji Adamu Fika, a former Head of the Civil Service of the Federation (HoSF), is dead.

A report by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) says that Fika, 90, died mid-air while returning to Nigeria from a London hospital yesterday, Tuesday, October 24, 2023.

His death has attracted widespread mourning, including from Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe, who expressed shock and sadness over the development.

The governor, in a statement on Wednesday in Damaturu by his Director-General Press and Media Affairs, Alhaji Mamman Mohammed, described the deceased as a leader, elder statesman and a counsellor.

“Buni has received with sadness, the news of the passing away of a leader, elder statesman, and illustrious son of the state, Alh. Adamu Fika, the Wazirin Fika.

“Buni described the death of the Wazirin Fika as a great national loss, and a loss with wide vaccum to his family, Fika Emirate, and Yobe state.

“We have lost a great leader, a wise counsellor, a pride of our state and a gentleman with passion for equity and social justice.

“The death of Alh. Adamu Fika has closed a door of consultation for our government and created a blockage to borrow from the wealth of experiences of an accomplished technocrat and seasoned administration.

“I wish to, on behalf of myself, the government and people of Yobe State express our heartfelt condolences to his family and Fika Emirate.

“I pray to almighty Allah (SWT) to forgive his shortcomings and grant his soul eternal rest in Aljannatur Firdaus,” Buni said.

Fika was a HoSF in 1986, and served until he retired from the Federal Public Service in April 1988.
