Incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke of the Accord Party has been declared winner of the 2026 Osun State governorship election after securing victory in 19 of the state’s 30 local government areas.
The State Returning Officer, Prof. Joshua Ogunwole, Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University, Oye-Ekiti, announced Adeleke’s victory on Sunday, August 16, 2026, after the collation of results from across the state.
According to the final results announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Adeleke polled 511,067 votes to defeat his closest challenger, Bola Oyebamiji, popularly known as AMBO, of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who scored 444,815 votes.
The African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate, Najeem Salaam, finished a distant third with 17,180 votes.
A total of 15 political parties contested the election, although several candidates recorded fewer than 100 votes.
Adeleke’s strongest performances came in several key local government areas, including Osogbo, where he secured 36,480 votes against Oyebamiji’s 30,474; Ede North, where he scored 35,427 votes against the APC candidate’s 10,283; and Ede South, where he polled 26,188 votes to the APC’s 6,219.
He also won Ife Central with 21,171 votes against 15,913 for the APC, Ife East with 27,201 votes against 18,600, Iwo with 27,085 votes against 19,660, and Ife North with 13,879 votes against 9,613.
However, Oyebamiji maintained a strong presence in several local government areas, including Ilesa East, where he scored 16,208 votes against Adeleke’s 12,280; Boripe, where he polled 19,963 against 12,448; Irepodun, where he recorded 15,713 against 14,504; and Obokun, where he secured 16,120 votes against Adeleke’s 12,023.
The APC candidate also won Atakumosa West, Atakumosa East, Irewole, Isokan, Olaoluwa, Ife South and Olorunda LGAs.
In Irewole, Oyebamiji recorded one of his largest margins, polling 29,972 votes against Adeleke’s 10,934.
Adeleke, on the other hand, recorded a commanding victory in Osogbo, the state capital, with 36,480 votes against the APC’s 30,474.
The result consolidates Adeleke’s position as governor of Osun State after a closely contested election that saw the two leading candidates dominate the results across the state.

The final tally placed Adeleke ahead of Oyebamiji by 66,252 votes, while Salaam trailed significantly in third place.
With the declaration, Adeleke secures another term as governor of Osun State after defeating the APC challenger in what emerged as a two-horse contest between the Accord Party and the APC.
