Anambra 2021: Peter  Obi Congratulates  Valentine Ozigbo  Over PDP Primary Victory

His Excellency Peter Obi, the former Vice-Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has congratulated Valentine Ozigbo, the PDP candidate for the Anambra governorship election, on his victory at the party’s primary election.

Mr Ozigbo emerged as PDP’s candidate on Saturday, June 26, 2021, after polling the highest votes at the guber primary poll held at the Prof Dora Akunyili Women Development Center, Awka.

The electoral panel, led by Philip Shaibu, the Deputy Governor of Edo State, announced Valentine Ozigbo as the poll’s winner. He won 62 beating his closest contender, Dr Obiora Okonkwo, who scored 58 votes. Senator Uche Ekwunife came third with 44 votes.

Sixteen aspirants bought the PDP nomination and declaration of interest forms. Twelve of them participated in the poll on Saturday.

In a statement issued by his media office, Mr Peter Obi, the Vice-Presidential candidate of the PDP in the 2019 general election, congratulated Ozigbo and commended the other aspirants for their hard work and sacrifice.

“I congratulate the PDP family in Anambra state who has given the state the most peaceful and organised process of choosing a candidate,” Obi said.

He advised the PDP at the state and national level to leverage their individual strengths to and pull together as a family towards the “journey of building a better Anambra State for the future of our children and the true “light of the nation.”

Valentine Ozigbo is the immediate past President and Group CEO of Transcorp Plc. He is the Chairman of Feet ‘N’ Tricks International, Africa’s largest promoters of freestyle football. The company has the sole rights to organise the Nigerian Freestyle Football Championship and the African Freestyle Football Championship.
