As part of activities marking his visit and official opening of the Bayelsa West Senatorial District office in Sagbama LGA, His Excellency, Senator Henry Seriake Dickson today played host to The regent of Oporomo Kingdom and other Traditional rulers from across the senatorial district, the PDP caucus, women leaders, community development chairmen, Local government chairmen, youth leaders, party leaders and stakeholders.
Also present was the Deputy Governor of Bayelsa State, His Excellency, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo and the Hon. Peter Akpe (Deputy Chief of Staff) and other top government officials in the senatorial district.
The senator who addressed the large delegation in the Ijaw dialect to the delight of the listening audience, expressed great pleasure at the unwavering commitment showed by the leaders as well as the support he as an individual enjoyed and continues to enjoy from the people.
Senator Dickson thanked all the leaders and people of the district for their efforts during his senatorial elections where he was first and foremost declared unanimously unopposed candidate and won a great victory at the polls.
He assured his people that his task was to represent them at the national assembly and they have already started witnessing the representation.
He said that his assignment at the national assembly extends beyond the district to the entire ijaw nation and further stressed that himself and his party owed the senatorial district the debt of gratitude.
He also used the medium to express his commitment to his people on the subject of constitutional review which he had spoken about openly. Senator Dickson said he believes that the constitution of Nigeria is faulty in so many ways like the way the mineral rights of the people of the Niger Delta was taken away without consulting or hearing from the hosts.
He also expressed another flaw in the constitution with respect to the role of traditional rulers. The constitution he said, must give the traditional rulers in Nigeria, their rightful constitutional role as Nigeria is a nation of ethnic nationalities and traditional rulers are the original owners of Nigeria and that is why he accords them their deserved recognition.
In closing, Senator Dickson thanked the leaders and urged them to continue to support the government as well as collaborate with tghe security agencies to maintain peace, law and order in all the communities and promised that they would all see the dividends of the confidence reposed on him.
