The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leadership in Anambra State has declared total support for the party’s flag-bearer for the governorship election in the state, Valentine Ozigbo.

The party leadership made this known on Wednesday, August 11, 2021, when Mr Ozigbo hosted a meeting with the PDP state working committee and selected stakeholders at Grand East Hotel, Awka.

Affirming that the party is united behind Ozigbo’s candidacy, the State Chairman of the PDP, Chief Ndubuisi Nwobu, stated that the PDP is prepared for the governorship campaign, urging party leaders, stakeholders, and members at all levels to work for Ozigbo’s success at the poll.

“I want to reassure all Anambrarians, particularly our party leadership and followership, of our determination to join forces with the candidate of the party in the person of Mr Valentine Ozigbo to ensure victory for our party come November 6, 2021,” Nwobu said.

“Ozigbo has our collective support, and we will work with him to win the governorship election.”

Chief Nwobu seized the opportunity to assure party members that the PDP family in Anambra is united more than ever and ready for a successful outing at the polls.

“I thank the Board of Trustees (BoT), National Working Committee (NWC), and National Executive Committee (NEC), members and other leaders of the party, and we urge them to rally around the party’s candidate
to drum up support for Ozigbo,” Nwobu added.

In his reaction, Ozigbo remarked that he was excited at the unanimous endorsement from the party’s leadership, stating that a united PDP will be unbeatable at the election.

“The PDP is the most popular party in Anambra State, and this year’s election presents the best opportunity for us to deliver true dividends of democracy to Ndi Anambra,” Ozigbo said.

Ozigbo, who is the immediate past President and Group CEO of Transcorp Plc, expressed readiness to work with the party structure at all levels to ensure synergy during the campaigns.

“We are set to launch a robust campaign that will reach people at the grassroots. We will run an issue-based campaign that will cater to the immediate needs of Ndi Anambra.”

“Since I emerged as the party’s candidate, we have embarked on wide consultations to ensure that the PDP presents a united front, and I am encouraged by the broad acceptance that my candidacy has received within and outside the PDP,” Ozigbo added.

Anambra State PDP Working Committee members led by Chief Nwobu and the PDP State Woman Leader, Mrs Justina Nwafor, and all 21 PDP local government chairmen attended the meeting.

Also present were several notable stakeholders, including NEC member Chief Okey Muo Aroh, Chief Idu Emeka, Dr Rose Nwankwo, among others.

Several directors and key members of the VCO Campaign Organisation were also in attendance, including Rt Hon Eucharia Azodo, a former Speaker of the Anambra State House of Assembly and two-time member of the Federal House of Representatives; Hon Tim Egboka, a former member of the Anambra State House of Assembly; Chief Tony Offiah, a prominent PDP stalwart; Mr Obinna Ufudo, a business mogul; Chief Ikechukwu Akaeze, a former PDP Chairman in Dunukofia LGA; Hon. Valentine Ayika, a former member of the Federal House of Representatives.

Others are Sir Izuchuwku Oraelosi, the General Manager of the VCO Foundation; Chief Bartholomew Obagha, Chief Damian Nwafor, Nze Afam Okpalauzuegbu, the PDP Chairman in Amesi Ward, Deaconess Amaka Tamuno, and several others.

A globally celebrated business mogul, Valentine Ozigbo emerged as the PDP candidate after securing majority of the votes at the party’s primary election held on Saturday, June 26, 2021. He is widely regarded as the grassroots favourite to win the Anambra governorship election after running a unique pre-primary campaign that saw him tour all the 21 local government areas in the state multiple times.

Ozigbo had earlier unveiled Mrs Azuka Enemo, a seasoned administrator, an academic, and a two-time Commissioner for Local Government, as his running mate, a choice that the PDP Elders in Anambra State endorsed at a conference last Friday.

Senator Uche Ekwunife, who represents Anambra Central in the upper chamber of the National Assembly, was named the Chairperson of the Valentine Ozigbo Governorship Campaign Council, a decision that has further boosted the chances of the PDP in the upcoming poll.
