Nigeria-Atlanta 96 Dream Team

Yesterday, 3rd of August, 2021 makes it 25 years after Nigeria beat Argentina 3 – 2 to win the Atlanta, 1996 Olympic games in America. The then Federal Government of Nigeria promised to feat the players and officials with their personal homes.

25 years after Atlanta ’96, the Nigerian government has not fulfilled its promise of houses for the winning dream team of then Nigerian Under 23 footballers.

As monitored on TVC News in the early hour of today, a former team player featured in the program said he has not received any house and he is not aware that any of his team mates has received any either.

This is a very sad reflection of hour we are as a nation. Sport, one activity that unites us beyond ethnicity and religion is also a victim of the ravaging effects of the destruction such tendencies can bring to governing a diverse nation like Nigeria.

This writer calls on the President Muhammadu Buhari Administration to do that which no government since 1996 has done by giving our Dream Team their well-deserved national appreciation for a job very well done.
