B-R-E-A-K-I-N-G: Chief Of Army Staff, Others Perish In Plane Crash

Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-General Ibrahim Attahiru, died in an air crash this evening of Friday, May 21, 221, while on an official trip to Kaduna.

The incident, according to eyewitnesses who spoke with our correspondent, occurred around 6:00 p.m. while the military training aircraft was trying to land on the runway of the Kaduna International Airport.

The plane was said to have crash-landed on the runway, with the eight people on board feared dead.

The Nigerian Air Force confirmed the incident via a statement issued shortly after the crash.

NAF Director of Public Relations and Information, Air Commodore Edward Gabkwet, said the incident occurred near the Kaduna International Airport.

“An air crash involving a @NigAirForce aircraft occurred this evening near the Kaduna International Airport. The immediate cause of the crash is still being ascertained. More details to follow soon,” he said.

The incident was said to have occurred while it was raining heavily.
