Former Permanent Secretary of the Bayelsa State Ministry of Education, Dr Walton Liverpoolhas reportedly slumped and died at the University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH) in Edo State over poor health complications while on a business trip to Ondo State.

Dr. Walton Liverpool, who retired from the Bayelsa Civil Service, was reported to be battling with High Blood Pressure which was allegedly not handled properly.

It was gathered that his health problem became complicated after taking a trip to Port Harcourt in Rivers State in a Tipper due to the devastating flood along the East-West road before boarding a plane to Lagos in poor health condition despite being prevailed not to travel by his wife and children.

A close family source however said the health condition deteriorated when he got to Ondo State and was rushed to a private hospital for treatment but was referred to the University of Benin Teaching Hospital where he was confirmed dead.

“He had just come back from Abuja and he told his wife that he had to submit a document in Ondo State. The wife tried convincing him otherwise but he insisted that the document was important. The Wife now asks that he travel with someone to the Ondo State but the person contacted was in Port Harcourt. He left and took a Tipper transport due to the flood damage to the East-West road.

“By the time he got to Port Harcourt, his health was deteriorating. He got to Ondo State but collapsed. The wife was contacted and his son rushed down to Akure and moved him to UBTH where he was confirmed dead,” he said.

The deceased, Walton Liverpool, was known for his style of politics and contribution to the Educational sector of the State. Only last year, he was involved in a scandal in which a 19-year-old girl, Miss Charlotte Delhi, circulated his naked picture on social media and he filed a blackmail case against her at the Federal High Court in Yenagoa, Bayelsa capital.

He had told the court the nude video allegedly released by the accused caused him psychological and physical pains, hinting that he almost committed suicide and fainted after his immediate and extended family viewed the said video on the internet.
