Yesterday, a heartwarming moment took place as Dr. Gentle Emelah, the Honourable Commissioner for Education, received 13-year-old Davidpeter Ebikabowei Alamieyeseigha. Davidpeter, a young boy from Amassoma in Southern Ijaw Local Government Area of Bayelsa State, made history by winning a Bronze at the International Stem Olympiad, also known as iSTEM, in the city of Hague, Netherlands.

This prestigious global competition showcased the talents of over 117 countries in the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM).

Dr. Gentle Emelah extended his congratulations to Davidpeter and his fellow Bayelsan, Master Victor O. Oforji, who also won a Bronze in Robotics at the same competition. Unfortunately, Master Victor Oforji was unable to attend the meeting due to flight challenges from Abuja to Yenagoa, as reported by his teachers.

According to the Honourable Commissioner, Bayelsa State is known for its abundance of talented individuals in various fields, such as the four boys and girls from Bishop Dimeari Grammar School and St Jude’s Girls Secondary School, who represented Nigeria at the World School Basketball Championship in Serbia.

“These young students proved themselves by showcasing their skills, and currently, four of the boys from BDGS have been selected into the Nigerian National U-18 Basketball Team.”

“Under the leadership of His Excellency, Sen. Douye Diri, the Prosperity Government is committed to promoting technical education to equip the children with necessary skills for the modern world, particularly in this digital age.”

“This is evident in the establishment of well-equipped Technical Colleges across the State. The Bayelsa Prime Project has also contributed to modernizing the teaching and learning experience by incorporating technology.”

“With the success of young talents like Davidpeter Alamieyeseigha, we can be confident that Bayelsa will produce more science and technology geniuses in the future,” he added.

Davidpeter was accompanied by His Mum, Chief Mrs. Nice Alamieyeseha, the Vice Principal of his School Charles Dale Memorial School Port-Harcourt among others.
