Let me use this occasion of 16th May, a day set aside to commemorate the struggles of Major Isaac Adaka Boro, to wish all sons and daughters of Ijaw nation and indeed, Niger Delta happy celebrations.
For me, it should be a time for deeper introspection, reflection and stock taking on our core values in the struggle, to enable us retool, restrategize and renegotiate for greater productivity.
We must not fail to strike the necessary partnerships across the multi-ethnic, multi-cultural and sociopolitical landscape of our great nation. This philosophical trust, is the only binocular that can guarantee a better vision for our kind.
The values and measures espoused in demanding and interfacing with the Nigerian State. Our political actualisation as a people, our economic well being and political integration module is something that demands a foresighted roadmap, that should be crafted by our elite intellectual cream.
We must make deliberate efforts to delineate, ourselves from this grim picture of violence that, the Ijaw man and his struggles are now being reckoned with.
The Ijaw man is one that is courageous to stand up, and has been standing for a long time now, but for what?
Have we been standing for our;
Rights?
Political inclusion?
Economic inclusion?
Environmental justice?
Or, have we been standing for standing sake?
It is time to think, be specific, concerted and evolve.
Once again, happy Boro Day celebration to Ijaw Nation in particular and Niger Delta in general.
Signed:
Success Jack
