Nigeria’s senior female national football team, the Super Falcons, early this Monday afternoon (Nigerian time) zoomed into the Round of 16 at the 2023 Women’s World Cup holding in Australia and New Zealand.

Nigeria ended up runners-up in Group B after being battled to a goalless draw in Brisbane by the Republic of Ireland, who have crashed out from the competition.

The Super Falcons had produced the first major shock of the tournament after stunning co-hosts’ Australia 3-2, to shoot to the top of the group, level with Canada on four points.

They had opened their campaign with a hard fought 0-0 draw with Olympic champions Canada.

After today’s draw, Nigeria ended up with five points while Australia stunned Canada 4-0 to emerge top of the group.
