Suspected Oodua (Yoruba) Nation agitators caused panic in parts of the country’s South-West this Sunday morning, May 28, 2023, attacking a police station in Niheria’s former capital, Lagos, and hijacking a radio station in Ibadan, capital of neighbouring Oyo State.

The attacks came less than 24 hours to the handing over of power to President-elect, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) by outgoing President Muhammadu Buhari.

Two of the agitators have been arrested and are in police custody after attacking Alausa Police Station, Ikeja, located opposite the Lagos State Government Secretariat.

The reason for the attack was not immediately known as at the time of filing this story but those who hijacked Amuludun 99.1 FM in Ibadan around 6:00 a.m. announced the birth of a new Yoruba or Oodua Nation distinct from the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

The suspects invaded the station owned by the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN), with various forms of charms.

After taking over the station, they made a live broadcast, saying, among other things, “Oodua Nation has come to stay”, “Yoruba no more under Federal Republic of Nigeria”, and “United Nation will soon declare Oodua Nation”.

The General Manager of the station, Mr. Stephen Agbaje, confirmed the development.

“Some group of agitators came around in the night, and took over the station, but the situation has been brought under control by the security agents. They were able to recover the station, and some arrests have been made,” he said.
