…records 5 new cases, zero death in 24 hours

Efforts by the Governor Godwin Obaseki-led state government to contain the spread of the second wave of coronavirus (COVID-19) have continued to yield gains as the state records a gradual decline in the number of infections and active cases.

The State COVID-19 Incident Manager, Dr. Andrew Obi, disclosed this during a virtual meeting of the State COVID-19 Taskforce, chaired by the state governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki.

He noted that the state recorded 50 new recoveries with 669 active cases that are being managed at various treatment and isolation centres in the state.

According to him, “Edo State, on the back of nuanced measures to tackle the second wave of the pandemic, is recording a drastic reduction in the number of infections, deaths and active cases. In the last 24 hours, we recorded 50 more recoveries, five new cases with no death from COVID-19.

“This success can be sustained if residents continue to take responsibility and assist the government in curbing the spread of the infectious disease by complying with prevention protocols to contain the second wave of the pandemic.”

Obi continued: “The Edo State Government once again calls on all residents to adhere to the compulsory use of facemasks and other precautionary measures against the spread of coronavirus as the government alone cannot win this battle.

“Wash your hand regularly under running water, use alcohol-based hand sanitizers, and observe social distancing.”

He further urged citizens with COVID-19 symptoms to contact the Edo Emergency Operation Centre on this toll-free number: 08003625000 for assistance.
