Candidate of the PDP, Hon Ovuokporie Declared Winner of Delta Bye-Election

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), on Sunday, declared the candidate of the People’s Democratic Party PDP, Hon Evivie Ovuokporie as winner of the Isoko South Constituency 1 bye-election held on Saturday, September 11, 2021 in Delta State.

The Returning Officer, Prof. Christopher Onosemuode,  declared the candidate of the PDP, Hon Ovuokporie winner at the constituency Collation Centre, Isoko South INEC LGA office on Sunday morning.

The bye-election to fill the vacant seat at the State House of Assembly was a three-horse race among candidates of PDP, Hon. Ovuokporie Evivie who polled 6, 957 votes, Comrade Michael Emumena Paul of the SDP who had 1,291 votes and Dr Ogaga Ifowodo of the APC who got 1,301 votes.

Meanwhile, though the bye-election witnessed a good turn-out, it was characterised with a few hitches leading to the killing of a vigilante in cold blood.

The incident happened at about 3:15 p.m when armed hoodlums stormed Irri Ward 10, polling unit 5, while snatching away ballot papers used for the election.

The acting Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the Delta Police Command, DSP Bright Edafe, on Saturday, confirmed the killing of the vigilante, saying “he is a vigilante. It was a stray bullet that hit him; we cannot say where the bullet came from.”
