Governor Douye Diri

By Adewole Kehinde

Some people attacked me that I worked for the Labour Party in the presidential election, so why am I not supporting the Labour Party candidates in Bayelsa this time around.

I told them that having been a public servant, a teacher, a private businessman, and having rich experience in politics as a commissioner, deputy chief of staff, principal executive secretary, House of Representatives member, and senator, Douye Diri is the best man to continue as the governor of Bayelsa State for the next four years to complete his prosperity projects.

Diri’s administration has made modest and visible progress that has impacted the state positively, with big-ticket as well as smaller projects across the eight local government areas of the state fully embarked upon.

As I emphasised in my previous write-up, the governor has embarked on critical projects and infrastructure such as roads, education, security, and the welfare of civil servants and pensioners, including the empowerment of small and medium enterprises in the state, and his second term will be a significant booster for all these projects and infrastructure development.

From my investigation, Diri’s administration has so far embarked on the construction of over 150 kilometres of road infrastructure, including internal roads, in the three senatorial zones of the state.

During my visit to Bayelsa State, I witnessed his appreciable achievements in the health, sports, education, and agricultural sectors, as well as in human capacity development and empowerment programmes.

Critical projects such as the Nembe Unity Bridge, Elebele Bridge, Imiringi Bridge, and ongoing construction work on the Nembe-Brass Road and the Yenagoa-Oporoma Road, as well as accreditation for the Bayelsa State College of Education, Sagbama, and the Niger Delta University, are some of the projects I saw.

I witnessed the graduation of 603 youths as the first batch of trainees for the Bayelsa State Community Safety Corps. The initiative is commendable; it would assist security agencies in intelligence gathering and enhance the protection of lives and property.

Governor Diri has really demonstrated the capacity to ensure sustainable peace and equitable distribution of infrastructural projects and youth empowerment programmes despite the numerous challenges facing governance and the governed.

Governor Diri is a true leader because he is listening and accommodating. He cares for all without political division. As a governor who has been preaching peace since the inception of his administration, Governor Diri has always advised Bayelsans that politics with bitterness will not move the state forward.

I call on all eligible voters in Bayelsa State to support and endorse Governor Douye Diri for the second tenure bid based on the governor’s tremendous achievements and strides, which are geared towards the development and prosperity of Bayelsa State.
