Edo State has recorded 36 new cases of coronavirus (COVID-19), bringing the total number of confirmed cases in the wake of the second wave of the pandemic to 950.

The State COVID-19 Incident Manager, Dr. Andrew Obi, disclosed this in a virtual meeting of the State COVID-19 Taskforce, chaired by the state governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki.

The Incident Manager noted that the state also recorded 14 new recoveries, making a total number of 379 persons who have recovered with 23 deaths since December 1, 2020 when the state started tracking the second wave of the deadly virus.

He noted that 11 more health workers were infected in the state, adding that Local Government Areas (LGAs) with higher prevalence rate include Esan West, Esan Central, Etsako West, Oredo and Egor LGAs.
According to him, “Edo State, within the last 24 hours, recorded 36 new cases of COVID-19 and 14 recoveries, which brings to 950 the total number of confirmed cases and 379 recoveries in the second wave of the pandemic.”

Obi urged residents to adhere to guidelines against the spread of the deadly virus to protect the elderly who are most vulnerable to the disease, reassuring that the Obaseki-led state government remains committed to containing the pandemic and ensuring the wellbeing and safety of residents.

“As the state government continues to ramp up efforts to curtail the spread of the virus and protect the majority of Edo people, we urge everyone to comply with all set guidelines to contain the pandemic, especially the use of facemasks in public,” he added.

He further charged residents with any COVID-19 symptoms to contact the Edo Emergency Operation Centre on this toll-free number: 08003625000 for assistance.
