The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) has completed significant upgrades on sporting facilities in Benin City, Edo State in preparation for the 2nd Niger Delta Games. This is in line with its promise to improve facilities in host states.

The NDDC, in collaboration with the organizers, Dunamis-Icon Limited, has rehabilitated various sporting facilities to international standards. The facilities include the Olympic-standard swimming pool and tennis courts at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, as well as the twin volleyball and basketball courts at the Wire Road Sports Centre, which now have dressing rooms and conveniences.

Dr. Samuel Ogbuku, the NDDC Executive Director, had assured Governor Monday Okpebholo that the Commission would upgrade sporting facilities to meet international standards. The Chairman of Dunamis-Icon Limited, Sir Itiako Ikpokpo, reiterated this commitment during a recent inspection tour, stating that the games will bring legacy to host states.

The 2nd Niger Delta Games, featuring over 3,000 athletes and 500 coaches in 16 sports, is scheduled to take place from February 20-27, and involves nine states, including Abia, Akwa Ibom, Bayelsa, Cross River, Delta, Edo, Imo, Ondo, and Rivers.
