GOVERNOR LALONG PAYS TRIBUTE TO FALLEN HEROES THANKS GEN ALI FOR RESTORING PEACE ON THE PLATEAU

The Plateau State Governor, His Excellency Rt. Hon Simon Bako Lalong has paid tribute to Nigeria’s fallen heroes who paid the supreme price in defence of the unity, peace, and stability of the nation. This was to commemorate the 2023 Armed Forces Remembrance Day (AFRD) celebration, held at the Joseph Gomwalk State Secretariat Jos today 15 Jan, 2023.

The Governor led other dignitaries in the state to laid wreath at the cenotaph to climax series of events lined up to celebrate this year’s AFRD. Other dignitaries who also laid wreaths in honour of the fallen heroes, were the Speaker Plateau State House of Assembly, Hon. Yakubu Sanda, Chief Judge of Plateau State, His Lordship Justice David Gwong Mann, the General Officer Commanding 3 Division and Commander Operation SAFE HAVEN Maj Gen Ibrahim Ali, the Commander 551 NAF Station Air Commodore Edward Gabkwet, the Commissioner of Police Plateau State Command, CP Bartholomew Onyeaka , the representative of the Gbong Gwom Jos, His Royal Highness Rev. Dr. Isaac Wakili, as well as the Chairman Nigerian Legion, Sarti Yilwat and the representative of the spouses of fallen heroes Mrs Helen Sabo Jurpuda.

The parade also had in attendance the Deputy Governor of Plateau State, the former Commander Operation Safe Haven Maj Gen ACC Agundu (rtd), Gen Temlong (rtd) officials of Plateau State Government, senior military officers both serving and retired, as well as invited guests.

Speaking during the luncheon held at the Rhino Officers’ Mess after the parade, the Governor of Plateau State ably represented by the Deputy Governor of the State Professor Sonni Tyoden thanked the outgoing GOC 3 Division Maj Gen Ibrahim Ali for restoring peace and unity on the Plateau and urged all to honour the courage of the fallen heroes.

He also described Gen Ali’s appointment as the Theatre Commander OPERATION HADIN KAI, as reward for his hard work and commitment. He wished him well as he takes on a more daunting challenge.

He further reassured the military and other security agencies of the continuous support of Plateau State Government towards achieving permanent peace on the Plateau.

Also speaking, the GOC Maj Gen Ali prayed for the repose of the souls of our fallen heroes and thanked all present for honouring the fallen heroes.

It could be recalled that Juma’at prayer was held at Jos Central Mosque while Inter-denominational Church Service held at St Monica’s Catholic as part of activities to mark the occasion .
