The family of the First Republic Minister of Aviation, Chief Mbazulike Amechi (Dara Akunwafor), on Tuesday morning confirmed his death, saying the nationalist died peacefully in the early hours to today, November 1, 2022.

Announcing his death on behalf of the family, Ezeana Tagbo Amechi stated in a message titled “End of an Era”: “With total deference to the will of the Almighty God, the Ume Amechi, Ezeana Ihinede families and the Umu Mmara kindred of Amihe Ukpor in Nnewi South Local Government Area of Anambra state announce the peaceful transition of our illustrious son, father, Nationalist and First Republic Minister of Aviation of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, who transitioned peacefully in the early hours of today November 1, 2022,” the announcement said.

The family urged for prayers and thoughts of friends and associates at this time.

Meanwhile, tributes have continued to pour on the remarkable life of the nationalist. Reacting to the development, a prominent Igbo and an elder statesman based in Abuja, said: “The Igbo nation has lost a father figure.”
