The Department of Psychology, Lagos State University (LASU), recently witnessed a colourful and inspiring ceremony as the Psychology Students Association formally inaugurated its new Executive Council, led by the newly elected President, Modupe Precious Adedayo.

The event, attended by members of the Academics, returning students and a vibrant body of freshers, marked a renewed commitment to academic excellence, student welfare and collaborative growth within the department.

In her inaugural address, President Modupe Adedayo, fondly known among students as Unique, expressed profound gratitude for the confidence reposed in her administration. She described the moment as “a deep honour and a collective celebration of our shared purpose, unity, and passion for the science of human behavior.”

Adedayo welcomed the incoming students into what she described as a “vibrant community of thinkers, dreamers and doers,” urging them to embrace psychology not merely as a course, but as “a journey of discovery” that equips them to empathize, question, and contribute meaningfully to society.

She emphasized that the Association remains committed to supporting students academically, socially, and personally through targeted programs such as tutorials, workshops, mentorship initiatives and social engagements designed to foster belonging and holistic development.

Encouraging active participation, Adedayo advised students not to merely “pass through the department,” but to allow the department’s academic and social structures to shape them into grounded and impactful graduates. She reiterated that the strength of the Association lies in collaboration, compassion and a united resolve to pursue excellence.

The newly inaugurated President pledged to lead with integrity, empathy and dedication, while working with her team to elevate the Nigerian Association of Psychology Students, LASU Chapter (NAPS-LASU), to greater heights.

The ceremony concluded with renewed optimism as staff and students expressed confidence that the Adedayo-led administration will usher in a more vibrant, student-centered and progressive era for the department.

The inauguration set the tone for what promises to be a transformative academic year for psychology students in LASU.
