A dominant performance by Nasarawa United on Sunday afternoon saw them convincingly defeat Katsina United 2-0 at the Lafia City Stadium on match-day six of the ongoing 2025/26 Nigeria Premier Football League Season.

The team’s mastery on the field was evident, with the two well-crafted goals coming off the boots of last season’s highest goalscorer award recipient, Anas Yusuf, at the stroke of half-time following a powerful shot from thirty-five metres, and right back, Abubakar Abdullahi, through a sublime finish, sealing the win seventeen minutes to regulation time.

Abubakar Abdullahi, who was United’s match-day captain, would later be voted Man-of-the-Match for his amazing performance in the game.

Sunday’s impressive result, their third consecutive home win this season, catapulted the Solid Miners to the summit of the NPFL table, amassing thirteen points from six matches, having won four games, drawn one and lost one, with a goal difference of four, respectively, since the new campaign began in August, 2025, while Katsina United remain unmoved on 4th position with nine points.

With momentum firmly in their favour, the Solid Miners will look to maintain their winning streak as they travel to Benin City, Edo State, next weekend, to face 15th-placed Bendel Insurance on match-day seven, before returning home to host Rangers International FC a week later.

In recognition of their outstanding performance, the team received a cash reward of Five Hundred Thousand Naira(N500,000.00) earlier promised them by the Nasarawa State Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Hon. Kwanta Yakubu, who was at the Stadium alongside top Government functionaries, including the State House of Assembly’s Standing Committee Chairman on Youth and Sports Development, Hon. Mohammed Garba Isimbabi, and Permanent Secretary of the State Ministry of Youth and Sports Development, Dr. Ibrahim Adamu Alhassan.

Captain of Nasarawa United, King Osanga(MON), received the cash reward on behalf of his teammates shortly after the game, as he appreciated the Commissioner for his benevolence and sustained support.

POST-MATCH REACTIONS:

COACH MANGUT MBWAS (NAS): “It’s a thing of joy to win today. Our response was great because we have been working so hard.

“We actually planned for this, and as you said, we are achieving our goals gradually.

“We have remain focused. It’s not time for celebration yet because the league is a marathon, and still at its infancy.

“Katsina United are a team that could deny you win because they won’t allow you to play. The first-half goal gave us an edge to score the second one, even though we squandered flurry of chances.

“We should have scored more than two goals today, but seems my players are over anxious in front of goal, but we are working towards correcting all of those.

“In our next game, it won’t be easy, but my team is growing in confidence, game in, game out, and I believe we could win anywhere.”

COACH AZEEZ MUHAMMAD(KAT): “It’s a normal game, but we lost our heads in the second half, and we failed to convert our chances, so they took advantage of theirs, and the better side won today.

“We will go and work on how to convert our chances.

‘Officiating was good, no complaints about that.”

ABUBAKAR ABDULLAHI(MOTM/NAS): “I feel great and return all glory to Almighty Allah for scoring the second goal for my team, my first this season.

“I had it in my mind to score today, and I am grateful God granted my heart’s desire.”
