The Director General of the Governor’s Cup, otherwise known as ‘Prosperity Cup’, Mr. Ono Akpe, has praised Team Bayelsa for its feat at the just concluded 20th National Sports Festival in Benin, Edo State.

Mr Akpe described the performance of the athletes as product of hard work and determination to make their state proud, following the charge by the state Governor before the team’s departure to the games.

In a statement signed by himself from his base in Abuja on Friday, also commended the Miracle Governor, Senator Douye Diri, whose magic wand, has again shown on the team, by their third place finish, the highest ever recorded by Bayelsa at the National Sports Festival.

In his words, “Am not surprised about team Bayelsa’s performance at the National Sports Festival in Edo state, because when you have a Governor who is passionate on reviving the sports sector, backed by the youths who are always eager to prove their worth at any given opportunity, then success will be achieved”.

” You will recall that when Douye Dir was Sports Commissioner, Bayelsa finished 4th at the Sports festival in Abeokuta, Ogun State in 2006, now as Governor, we have surpassed that feat, that’s to tell you that the Governor’s magic wand is still intact, and more success will be recorded in the future”.

The DG Prosperity Cup added that Team Bayelsa is always a force to reckon with in sports generally, as he expressed his believe that more investments and support will be channeled to the sector in the coming weeks.

He used the statement to urge youths in the state to remain law abiding and engage themselves in different sports, so as to tap into the opportunities that would arise in future, especially the Prosperity Cup, which will kick off in no distant time.

Mr. Akpe, while commending both the Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Daniel Igali and the entire Ministry of Youths and Sports Development, for a job well done, urged them not leave any stone unturned, in their quest to surpass the 3rd position at the games next year, in Delta state.
