…Prof. Pat Utomi, Buba Galadima to lead reconciliation drive as party seeks greater unity
The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has inaugurated a National Reconciliation Committee to resolve grievances arising from its recently concluded primary elections, as part of efforts to strengthen internal cohesion ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The committee, inaugurated on Thursday in Abuja, is co-chaired by Prof. Pat Utomi and Engr. Buba Galadima and is expected to foster peace, unity and reconciliation among party members across the country.
Speaking during the inauguration, the National Chairman of the NDC, Senator Cleopas Moses Zuwoghe, said the committee was constituted to address concerns stemming from the primaries and reinforce the party’s unity ahead of the polls.
According to him, a united party is crucial to achieving electoral success in 2027.
Zuwoghe urged members of the committee to discharge their responsibilities with integrity, fairness, transparency and diligence, while calling on state and zonal party chairmen to give the reconciliation process their full support.
He noted that state and zonal leaders possess a better understanding of local political dynamics and would play a critical role in ensuring the success of the reconciliation effort.
Responding on behalf of the committee, its Chairman, Prof. Pat Utomi, thanked the party leadership for the confidence reposed in him and pledged to work towards restoring harmony and strengthening internal unity.
Utomi assured party members that the committee would pursue its assignment with dedication in order to advance the collective vision of the NDC.
Co-Chairman Engr. Buba Galadima also commended the party leadership for establishing the committee, describing it as a timely initiative that would help rebuild trust among members.
He pledged his commitment to ensuring genuine reconciliation across all levels of the party.
A member of the South-South Sub-Committee, Bishop Isaac Idahosa, called on party leaders, members and stakeholders to put aside personal interests and embrace unity to position the NDC for victory in the 2027 general elections.
He also outlined practical measures for resolving post-primary disputes and strengthening collaboration within the party.
The NDC leadership reaffirmed its commitment to internal democracy, fairness, inclusiveness and party cohesion, saying the reconciliation initiative would enhance the party’s readiness to present credible candidates and offer Nigerians a strong political alternative in the next general elections.
