Troops of Operation HADIN KAI have thwarted a planned suicide attack by Boko Haram terrorists after neutralising three suicide bombers in Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno State, the military has said.

‎The operation, which took place along the Guduf–Pulka corridor, was driven by actionable intelligence and executed in collaboration with local vigilante and volunteer forces, underscoring the role of community participation in counter-terrorism efforts.

‎The Media Information Officer of Operation HADIN KAI, Lieutenant Colonel Sani Uba, disclosed this in a statement issued on January 1, 2026, in Maiduguri.

‎“Troops of Operation HADIN KAI successfully neutralised three terrorist suicide bombers following a deliberate, intelligence-driven operation,” Lt. Col. Uba said.

‎He explained that the suicide bombers were intercepted before reaching their intended targets, preventing potential mass casualties among civilians in the area.

‎Lt. Col. Uba noted that troops recovered suicide vests and other IED components from the terrorists, which were immediately secured to avert further danger.

‎He added that troops also engaged the terrorist escorts, killing several of them and forcing others to retreat into the Mandara Mountains.

‎“Four AK-47 rifles were recovered during exploitation, while two motorcycles used by the terrorists were destroyed,” he stated.

‎According to the military, intelligence reports indicate that the suicide bombers were dispatched by the Ali Ngulde-led JAS faction of Boko Haram, operating from the Mandara Mountain axis.

‎The spokesman said troops have intensified operations in the area to dismantle remaining terrorist networks and disrupt suicide-bomber supply chains.

‎He further revealed that the military has strengthened cooperation with security agencies and community groups in Borno and Yobe to protect vulnerable locations.

‎“Operation HADIN KAI remains committed to sustaining offensive pressure on terrorists and ensuring the safety of the populace,” Lt. Col. Uba assured.
