Nigeria’s senior female cricket team, the Female Yellow Greens, on Sunday at Windhoek, Namibia, humbled Sierra Leone by 96 runs.
Piety Lucky emerged the star performer of the match, scoring 68 runs off 36 balls. The U19 captain, Lucky, also took one wicket to help Nigeria establish a statement victory as the race for top two Qualifiers began for African women’s cricket.
Nigeria’s top batter, Salome Sunday, recorded 47 runs, not out while Amusa Muhibat contributed 31 runs to make Nigeria’s tally 183 runs for loss of 3 wickets.
The chase by Sierra Leone Ladies Patriot was a no match for Nigeria’s attacking fielding, especially after Emma Kamara’s dismissal.
Kamara’s opening batting gave the West African cricket neighbours high hope but was dismissed after scoring 31 runs off 25 balls. Sierra Leone’s total score was 86 runs and lost 8 wickets after 20 overs.
Nigeria’s next match is against host Namibia on Monday. 8 African countries tussle for two qualification tickets to join Global Qualifiers in Nepal before proceeding to play the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup, to be hosted by England and Wales in July 2026.
