Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK) has clarified the status of an individual previously reported as a terror suspect, announcing that investigations found no evidence linking him to any terrorist group.
In a statement issued on Thursday by the Acting Military Information Officer, Headquarters Joint Task Force (North East) Operation HADIN KAI, Captain Mohammed Goni, the military said the clarification became necessary following media reports published on July 14, 2026, concerning an individual intercepted by troops of the 68 Battalion during an exploitation operation after the terrorist attack at Cross Kauwa.
The statement identified the individual as Aboubakar Muhammad Zein-Nur, also known as Houdairi.
According to Operation HADIN KAI, troops took him into custody in line with established operational procedures due to the prevailing security situation and the frequent use of border corridors by terrorist groups for movement and logistics.
However, the military said comprehensive intelligence assessments and other investigative processes established that the man has no affiliation with any known terrorist organisation.
Investigations further revealed that Zein-Nur is a resident of Shattu Anguba Village in Bosso, Republic of Niger, where he engages in camel rearing beyond the River Komadougou.
Based on the findings, Operation HADIN KAI said the individual has been cleared of any terrorist links.
The Theatre Command reiterated that all persons intercepted under suspicious circumstances during military operations are subjected to due process and thorough security screening to distinguish innocent civilians from terrorist elements.
The military reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining pressure on terrorist groups while upholding professionalism, respect for human rights and adherence to the rule of law in the conduct of its operations.
