A 25-year-old woman, Maimunatu Idris, has been arrested by the Kano State Police Command for allegedly severing her boyfriend’s genitals during an attack at a hotel in Kano.
The suspect, who is from Maigatari Local Government Area of Jigawa State, was arrested following the incident at Durbar Hotel in the Badawa area of Kano.
The Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, confirmed the arrest in a statement on Monday, saying preliminary investigations indicate that the woman attacked the victim with a sharp knife after discovering he intended to marry another woman.
According to Kiyawa, the Divisional Police Officer promptly led a team of detectives to the scene, where the suspect was arrested and the knife allegedly used in the attack was recovered as evidence.
The injured man was rushed to Abubakar Imam Urology Hospital, where he is receiving treatment, while police have commenced a full investigation into the incident.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, condemned the alleged act, urging members of the public to refrain from taking the law into their own hands, regardless of the circumstances.
He assured residents that the case would be thoroughly investigated and that the suspect would be prosecuted in accordance with the law.
Meanwhile, a security guard working near the hotel told Daily Trust that the suspect allegedly invited her boyfriend to lodge at the hotel after learning he planned to end their relationship.
According to the eyewitness, the woman allegedly took advantage of the private setting to attack the victim before she was apprehended and handed over to the police, while the injured man was rushed to hospital for emergency medical attention.
