Prosperity Cup 2022 Kick’s Off May 2nd

The Bayelsa State Prosperity Cup, otherwise known as the Governor’s Cup, kick’s off on Monday May 2nd, 2022 at the Samson Siasia Stadium, Yenagoa at 10 am.

Expected as special guest of honour is the Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri. The Deputy Governor, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo is expected to be the guest of honour while the State’s Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development,  Hon. Daniel Igali will be the Chief Host.

According to a public announcement released by Mr. Ono K. Akpe, the Director-General of the Prosperity Cup, the Local Organising Committee of the Bayelsa Governor’s Football Tournament proudly welcomes, “their Excellencies the Miracle Governor Douye Diri and his resourceful deputy, Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, the State Executive Council, Legislature, Judiciary, Council Chairmen, Football Stakeholders and fans to the official kick-off of the “PROSPERITY CUP 2022″.

Come experience tactical genius, outstanding skills, fireworks and an electrifying atmosphere as the defending champions, Okolobiri Community FC, (now Gbarain Select Stars FC), tackle newcomers, Bayelsa Medical University in the curtain-raiser”.

The “Prosperity Cup” is a continuation of the “Restoration Cup” initiated by former Governor Henry Seriake Dickson and graciously continued by Governor Douye Diri as a mark of continuity in governance. Through the foundation of this competition, Bayelsa State has produced many foootball stars who have led the Bayelsa United Football Club win the AITEO Cup in 2021, thus making them the current national football league champions.
