Prosperity Cup: Striker-Turned Goalkeeper Saves Four Spot Kicks

Samuel Courage’s heroic saves was the highlight of the game between Agbura FC and Akaba FC in the matchday four fixture, at the ongoing Bayelsa State Governor’s Football Tournament tagged the Prosperity Cup.

The striker who stood in for his goalkeepers who were unavailable for the game, saved four spot kicks for his team, Agbura FC, in the second game at the Kpansia centre, and won 5-4, after a one all draw at regulation time.

It was a dramatic and intensive shootout that led to both teams taking eight spot kicks each, with Samuel Courage saving four of the kicks. The outcome saw Agbura FC progressed to the next round, despite fielding a natural player in between the sticks.

Earlier at the same centre, Ogbolo FC pummeled St Patrick Church 4-0, to move to the next phase of the Nigeria’s biggest grassroots football tournament.

In other venues, Overcoming Lamb Assembly beat  Sunboro FC 1-0 at the BDGS centre, as Divine Grace FC humbled Onopa Stars by three goals to one at the Swali Centre, while Creek Heaven All-stars progressed ahead of Dominion City FC of Azikoro.

Kilimanjaro FC at the Okordia centre beat Glorious FC 5-4 on penalties after a 1-1draw in the regulation time, while Yenegwe FC dispatched Glorious FC by three goals to nothing.

Opolo centre which has produced the highest number of goals so far in the tournament, failed to record more goals as United Star FC piped Hebrew Academy FC by a lone goal while N.A of Nursing and Midwifery AG/EKP, beat Apostolic Church II FC.

Ikolo FC also advanced to the next stage, winning 4-3 on penalties after a full time one all draw at the Tombia centre, despite scoring early in the game.

Last year semi finalist, Anyama FC of Ogbia at the Otuopoti venue cruised to a comfortable 3-0 victory of neighbors, God’s Promise FC of Otuedu.  Goals from Gogo Eluanatein, Agala Godgift and Felix Awilo, sealed the win for Anyama FC.

Earlier, Okodi FC beat Ologi FC 4-3 on penalties having played goalless at full time, while both games at  the Imringi centre was decided on penalties. New Evangel FC secured a passage to the next round with a 5-3 win over Oruma FC, just as Golden Stars FC defeated Newcastle FC of Kolo 5-4 in the shootout after a one all draw.

Action returns tomorrow in different centres like Twon Brass, Okpokiri/Akassa Centre, Egbema-Angalabiri, Azuzuama, Oporoma, Amassoma, Agge and Ayamasa.
