University Vice Chancellor dies two weeks after handing over

Late Prof Dawood Egbefo,

Prof Dawood Egbefo, the immediate past Acting Vice Chancellor of Edo State University, Iyahmo, is dead.

He died two weeks after handing over to his successor.

Prof Egbefo reportedly died on August 27, 2025.

The institution’s spokesperson, Amaechi Kelly Quincy, disclosed this in a post on the institution’s Facebook page.

Recall that governor Monday Okpebholo had August 8,2025, had announced the appointment of a substantive Vice Chancellor, Victor Adetimirin Olawale, for the institution.

The Public Relations Officer who didn’t state the cause of his death, described him as a distinguished scholar, a mentor and astute administrator.

Egbefo held a PhD in History and International Studies from the University of Ilorin, where he also earned his Master’s and Bachelor’s degrees in History.

He began his university career at the Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University, Lapai, and later joined Edo University Iyamho in 2017 as an Associate Professor. (Daily Trust, excluding headline)
