Valentine Ozigbo, a 2021 Anambra Gubernatorial Candidate, was one of the distinguished guests at the funeral ceremony of Mrs Mercy Ukamaka Okafor, who died at the age of 78.
The late Mrs Okafor was the mother of High Chief Sir Emmanuel Frank Okafor KSC, the Managing Director/CEO of Marcopolo Properties Limited and Marcopolo Hotel and Suites. He is also the President of Diamond Club and former President of Club 15, the two clubs being among the prestigious in Nigeria. Chief Okafor is a close friend of Mr Ozigbo.
In a short condolence message to the bereaved family at the ceremony held in Ojoto idemili South LGA of Anambra State on Wednesday, April 12, 2023, Ozigbo eulogised the late Mrs Okafor for the extraordinary life she led and the significant role she played in the lives of her children, family, and community.
“We are gathered here to celebrate the life of a virtuous matriarch whose memory will continue to be cherished and celebrated by everyone who was fortunate enough to have experienced her warmth and kindness,” Ozigbo said.
“I condole with the Okafor family, especially my friend High Chief Frank Onyeka. As you pass through this challenging time, I pray that God grants you strength and comforts your hearts as you mourn the loss of your mother,” Ozigbo, the immediate President and Group CEO of Transcorp Plc, added.
A host of distinguished Nigerians from all walks of life attended the event, including His Excellency Peter Obi, the Presidential candidate of the Labour Party in the 2023 presidential election who is also a former two-term governor of Anambra State; Mrs Ojiugo Ozigbo, wife of Valentine Ozigbo, Chief Benjamin Ubah; Dr Ebele Nwosu, the Chairman of Green Life Pharmaceuticals; Hon. Uche Anie Okonkwo, the House of Representatives member-elect Idemili North/Idemili South Federal Constituency; Joseph Eze Okafor Jnr. (Jowizaza), among others.
