…describes spate of insecurity as ‘highly worrisome‘
Valentine Ozigbo, a 2021 Anambra governorship candidate, has condemned the deadly attack on the convoy of Senator Ifeanyi Ubah, who is representing Anambra South at the Nigerian Senate.
The attack by unknown assailants occurred on Sunday, September 11, 2022, in Enugwu-Ukwu in Njikoka LGA of Anambra State and left three of Senator Uba’s aides and security personnel dead and several others injured.
In a statement issued from his campaign office in Awka, the capital of Anambra State, on Monday, September 12, 2021, Mr Ozigbo decried the gruesome attack and blatant disregard for the sanctity of life, calling for the authorities to take action in identifying and arresting the perpetrators.
The respected business mogul also expressed concern over the alarming level of insecurity in the country, calling for the political will to address the root causes of crime in Nigeria.
“I am shocked at the brazen nature of the attack on Senator Ifeanyi Ubah’s convoy and needless loss of the lives of people who were at work, earning an honest living, trying to make a living for themselves and their families,” Ozigbo said.
“For the past few years, the security situation in Anambra, Igboland and Nigeria has been highly worrisome. It should make every responsible Nigerian uncomfortable with the state of affairs.
“The lives of hardworking Nigerians are threatened everywhere. Nowhere is safe. Nobody is safe.
“Insecurity in Nigeria today calls for serious people to bring serious solutions to the table,” Ozigbo, an international peace ambassador, submitted.
Mr Ozigbo called on the government to rise to its fundamental constitutional responsibility of securing the lives and properties of every citizen.
“We urgently need strong, competent, and purposeful leadership. Governments need to take proactive steps to curb the menace of violent crimes in Nigeria,” Ozigbo added.
