Bayelsa finished 3rd at National Sports Festival in Edo

For the first time in the history of participation at the National Sports Festival, Bayelsa State finished 3rd at the Edo 2020 edition.

Bayelsa posted a total of 169 medals comprising of 56 gold, 55 silver and 58 bronze behind the Champion, Delta State and host Edo that placed second.

Bayelsa State dominated the swimming and wrestling competition with swimmer Ifie Gagbe, winning 8 individual gold medals for Bayelsa State.

In swimming, Bayelsa had 14 gold in all, 11 silver and 10 bronze.

Another revelation in the Team Bayelsa is the 17 year old, Timma Godbless, who won Silver in the 200 metres finals.

The young athlete who is participating in the sports festival for the first time also won bronze in the 100 metres female, to announce herself to the world.

Bayelsa won a total of 13 gold in wrestling, 8 silver and 8 bronze.

The best performance of Team Bayelsa before this festival was 4th position in Abeokuta in 2006 when the incumbent Governor, Douye Diri, was Commissioner for Youth and Sports.

Delta State will host the 21st edition of the National Sports Festival in 2022.
