There was apprehension in the Tokulo community of the Bwari Area Council in the FCT following the discovery of 12 corpses suspected to be those of bandits.

The councillor representing the Igu Ward in the area council, Jerry Alkali, said that the bodies were still there yesterday morning (Tuesday).

Alkali said residents called him between 2 and 3 am on Monday, lamenting how they were terrified by repeated sounds of gunshots in the area.

He said, “No one could afford to sleep at the time due to the tension caused by the development. It was later in the morning when some of them were heading to their farms that they sighted corpses lying on the ground outside the village along a road that leads to the Pmape community in Kagarko LGA of Kaduna State.

Also speaking, another resident, who preferred to remain anonymous, said none of the victims were from the community, which indicates that the deceased had either been engaged or brought in and shot dead by the security men.

It was reported that Tokulo, the home town of the serving chairman of the Bwari Area Council, has witnessed a series of attacks by the bandits, leading to the killing of locals as well as security men in the past.

It would be recalled that a similar incident took place in the Kawu community in the same area where five bodies suspected to be those of bandits were found in September.

An official of the FCT Special Anti-kidnapping Unit confirmed the latest incident but declined further comment on how it happened.

The spokeswoman for the FCT Police Command, Josephine Adeh, could not be reached for comment on the incident. (Daily Trust)
