Afrobeats superstar David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has raised the alarm over an alleged attempt by soldiers to prevent him from entering Osun State as the state holds its governorship election on Saturday.
Davido, in a post on his verified X account early Saturday, said he had been informed that soldiers were planning to stop him from entering the state.
«“I’ve been reliably informed that soldiers are trying to prevent me from entering Osun tomorrow, this won’t happen, every citizen of Nigeria has the right to movement at any point of time,” he wrote.»
His comment came against the backdrop of movement restrictions imposed across Osun State as part of security measures for the election.
The Nigeria Police Force had announced a restriction on movement from 12:00 midnight on Friday, August 14, until 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 15, 2026. Thousands of police officers and personnel from other security agencies were deployed across the state for the poll.
Davido, who is a nephew of incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke, has openly supported his uncle’s bid for a second term under the Accord Party and has been actively involved in his campaign.
Governor Adeleke is seeking re-election against candidates including the All Progressives Congress candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, and other contenders in the off-cycle election.
Davido’s post generated significant reactions online, with social media users divided over the allegation.
While some users argued that any restriction on his movement could be linked to the officially announced election-day security measures, others questioned whether the singer was being subjected to a targeted restriction because of his high-profile support for the incumbent governor.
Former presidential media aide Bashir Ahmad, however, dismissed Davido’s claim as “dramatic,” stressing that movement restrictions had been publicly announced ahead of the election.
“You are just dramatic, @davido. It has been widely announced by the security operators that movement in and around Osun will be restricted from 12 midnight today until 6 pm today due to the election and this is a standard security measure during elections anywhere not peculiar to Osun,” Ahmad wrote.
He added that the constitutional right to freedom of movement did not exempt citizens from complying with lawful security measures introduced to safeguard the electoral process.
Davido’s allegation comes as security agencies maintain heightened operations across Osun to ensure a peaceful and credible election.
