…sets up taskforce, to prosecute promoters

The Edo State Government has warned against operating private schools and lecture centres without approval from the State Ministry of Education, noting that operators of such centres risk prosecution.

In a statement, Secretary to the State Government, Osarodion Ogie Esq., decried the activities of some private individuals and organizations, who operate educational centres with substandard instructional facilities and personnel in shanties across the state.

He said, “This, we have learned, is being perpetrated in the guise that they are running these facilities in partnership with the Government when in fact they are reaping off unsuspecting members of the public through these unapproved private schools and lecture centres.

“The Edo State Government is committed to providing quality education for all and will not condone the perpetration of this aberration and the activities of those who are working to truncate the lofty efforts of the government to deliver quality education to children in Edo State.”

According to him, “All existing illegal private schools and lecture centres, as well as all private individuals/organisations running these centres are advised to visit the Planning, Research and Statistics of the Ministry of Education for guidelines on schools’ registration/approval.”

“Government has constituted a taskforce to clamp down on illegal private school/lecture centres to seal the premises and prosecute those promoting them.”

Ogie urged parents/guardians to register their children and wards at only approved private schools and lecture centres or, in the alternative, at the nearest public school.
