Former Bayelsa State Governor and Senator representing Bayelsa West in the 9th Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria received a rousing welcome at the Sagbama Junction, East West Road and his Country Home, in his home town of Toru Orua on Friday, 24th of December, 2021 by the women, youths and leaders of his senatorial District led by Hon Salo Adikumo representing Constituency 3 in the State House of Assembly and other chieftains and leaders of the party. Also in the mammoth crowd to receive Senator Dickson were Teams who are the winners of the Six Constituencies in Sagbama/Ekeremo Local Government Areas who trooped out to receive their leader and senator.

Senator Henry Seriake Dickson on arrival yesterday from Abuja. He was addressing members of the Ofurumapepe Cup LOC.

Senator Dickson who was billed to receive the Constituency Champions of the Henry Seriake Dickson , HSD Foundation sponsored Ofurumapepe Football Competition, shifted the date for the official ceremony to Tuesday, 26th of December, 2012, which is Boxing Day and is observed as a public Holiday in Nigeria and many countries of the world.

On arrival, Governor Dickson addressed exstatic crowd of teeming supporters in his native Ijaw language mixed sparingly with english.

 

He recognized the presence of the member of the Bayelsa State House of Assembly, Hon. Salo Adikumo, who led other top government dignitaries and Party leaders and supporters that included serving and past government administration, the Local Organizing Committee of the Ofurumapepe Cup Competition, women and youths from across the State, the PDP Woman Leader amongst others

Senator Dickson said he would have arrived earlier but was delayed by the poor whether condition at the Abuja Airport that caused his delay re-routing of his flight. Senator Dickson said he was touched when with disregard for the lateness of time, people came out in their large numbers to wait for him at the Sagbama Junction, East West Expressway at about 7:30pm.

He said he was happy with the reports he got about the smooth way the ongoing Ofurumapepe Cup Football Competition was being organized with transparency and accountability. He said he will say more about the very successful Senatorial Football Competition later.

Senator Dickson said he thought he will be able to personally shake the hands of the six Constituency Champions shortly. He thanked all those who represented him and those who supported the tournament in the communities, the members of the Local Organizing Committee led by Tony Ogola, fans and community leaders and other stakeholders in Sports sector.

Senator Dickson said even though he already knows the six constituency winners, he will be formerly notified by the LOC Chairman at a ceremony on the 28th of December, 2021 and that he will personally congratulate them. He said they will celebrate the six champions as well as the Local Government Champions of Sagbama and Ekeremor.

He wished all Nigerians, Bayelsans, Constituents of Bayelsa West Senatorial District a joyful, peaceful and merry Christmas.

The Henry Seriake Dickson (HSD) Foundation is the sponsor of the ongoing community-based grassroots football competition, the Ofurumapepe Cup, which involves about 100 teams and 2000 young boys.

The Foundation also recently unveiled the Nanaye Dickson Wrestling Tournament in Abuja where two Ijaw Wrestling Icons were recognized and honoured. This year’s edition of the Nanaye Dickson Wrestling Tournament is expected to start next Week.
