The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has released the official timetable for political campaigns ahead of the 2027 General Elections, outlining the approved campaign periods for the presidential, National Assembly, governorship and state Houses of Assembly elections in line with the Electoral Act 2026.
According to a flyer circulated by the Commission in both digital and printed formats, campaigns for the Presidential and National Assembly elections will commence on August 19, 2026, and end on January 15, 2027, ahead of the elections scheduled for January 16, 2027.
For the Governorship and State Houses of Assembly elections, campaigns will begin on September 9, 2026, and conclude on February 5, 2027, with the elections set to hold on February 6, 2027.
INEC urged political parties, candidates and other stakeholders to strictly adhere to the approved campaign timetable and work towards ensuring peaceful, transparent and credible elections.
The Commission also reminded political actors of the provisions of the Electoral Act 2026 governing electioneering activities. Under the law, campaigns must not commence earlier than 150 days before an election and must end 24 hours before polling begins.
It further warned that political parties, candidates and their supporters are required to comply with the approved campaign schedule, noting that violations could attract sanctions as stipulated by the Electoral Act.
