Former Nigerian President, Dr Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, has urged graduates of Cavendish University Uganda to look beyond personal success and dedicate their knowledge, talents and opportunities to creating positive change in society.
Jonathan, who serves as Chancellor of the university, gave the charge on Thursday while presiding over the institution’s 15th Graduation Ceremony, where he congratulated the Class of 2026 on reaching the milestone.
Speaking in line with the theme of the ceremony, “Graduating Global Talent for Employment, Entrepreneurship and Impact,” the former president challenged the graduands to embrace a life driven by purpose, innovation and service.
He urged them to become innovators and changemakers capable of using their education and talents to solve societal problems, transform communities and contribute meaningfully to the development of society.
Jonathan stressed that true success should not be measured solely by personal achievements, wealth or professional advancement, but also by the positive difference an individual makes in the lives of others.
“Ultimately, the measure of a successful life is not only what we achieve for ourselves, but the difference we make in the lives of others,” he said.
He encouraged the graduates to pursue careers and endeavours that would enable them to leave behind a meaningful legacy of purpose, service and positive transformation.
The former Nigerian leader congratulated the Class of 2026 and wished them courage and excellence as they begin the next phase of their lives.
“May your journey beyond the university be one of courage, excellence and lasting impact,” Jonathan said.
