Irate youths in Maiduguri, the capital city of Borno State, expressed their dissatisfaction with popular singer Davido for sharing a video clip they deemed offensive to Islam on his Twitter page.

The clip featured people praying and dancing in front of a mosque in the music video of his signee, Logos Olori’s new single ‘Jaye Lo’.

Prominent Nigerian Muslims, including former aide to ex-president Muhammadu Buhari, Bashir Ahmad, Senator Shehu Sani, and actor Ali Nuhi, criticised Davido for “disrespecting” their religion and urged him to take down the video and apologize.

After facing heavy criticism, Davido finally removed the controversial video after 48 hours but chose not to apologize for his action.

In response to his perceived arrogance, some aggrieved Muslim youths in Maiduguri took to the streets and set a large banner featuring Davido’s picture on fire. A video circulating on social media captured the moment the youths publicly burned the banner as a form of protest against the singer’s actions. (Nigerian Tribune, excluding headline)
