Nation of Islam Founder, Louis Farrakhan

According to the new councillor of prominent antisemite Louis Farrakhan, “I am not willing to denounce the leader of my faith any more than a Catholic would be willing to denounce their pope.”

By Staff of World Israel News

According to the Jewish Telegraphic Agency (JTA), a devout disciple of the antisemitic Nation of Islam founder Louis Farrakhan was elected to the city council of a significant Florida community, and his reluctance to retract statements made by his spiritual leader has local Jews alarmed.

In a 4-3 vote on Tuesday, Brother John Muhammad—whose real name, according to the JTA, is John C. Malone—was approved to fill a vacancy on the St. Petersburg city council.

Muhammad is a devoted adherent of Farrakhan, whose long record of virulently antisemitic remarks and promotion of ideas served as an influence on celebrities like Nick Cannon, Kanye West, and Kyrie Irving.

Farrakhan frequently accuses Jews of being “satanic,” “termites,” and “wicked,” and blames them for the media’s promotion of “sexual degeneracy” and black slavery in the United States.

Additionally, he has lauded Adolf Hitler, referring to him as a “very great man.”

The JTA article claims that when seeking for political office, Muhammad did not separate himself from Farrakhan’s anti-Semitism.

No more than a Catholic would be willing to condemn their pope, he remarked, “I am not willing to denounce the leader of my faith.”

Jewish organizations in the area, including as the Florida Holocaust Museum, publicly expressed concern about Muhammad’s selection and said that his implied support of Farrakhan’s antisemitic beliefs rendered him ineligible for office.

THE HIGHEST JEWISH REPUBLICAN VOTE IN A GENERATION, A POLL REVEALS

Maxine Kaufman, executive director of the Jewish Federation of Florida’s Gulf Coast, told JTA: “I do have issue with his veneration of someone who is plainly antisemitic, and he won’t denounce him, he won’t reject him. “In my opinion, not enough was done.”

Muhammad is seen defending Farrakhan while speaking to a group of young black activists in a 2016 video that JTA has seen.

For a very long time, Minister Farrakhan was charged with antisemitism due to his corrections and observations of Jewish activity. Additionally, anyone who criticizes the Jewish community is accused of being antisemitic. It doesn’t matter whether what you say is right or wrong, good or horrible. You are what you are if you criticize them, he said.

The Weekly Challenger, a local black-owned newspaper, disregarded the Jewish community’s worries and said that they had unfairly targeted Muhammad.

The publication falsely claimed that inquiries concerning Muhammad’s “religious practice” were “illegal” and that doing so constituted “hounding.”
