Following the alleged assassination of Prof. Godswill Obioma Monday night in Minna, Niger State, as narrated by his wife to Peoples Gazette, an online platform, NECO’s Director of Human Resources, Abdul Mustapha, has countered the narration of events as reported by wife of the deceased, Mrs Elizabeth Obioma.

Mrs Obioma as quoted while speaking on phone to Peoples Gazette had said “The assassins came in and killed him and left without taking anything.”

The report which stated that Mrs Obioma was weeping profusely while narrating the incident said her husband had just returned to Minna from a trip to Abuja when the armed men, lurking in his compound, descended on him and strangled him.

But in a twist of events, Mr Abdul Mustapha has debunked the report that Prof Godswill Obioma was assassinated. He rather attributed his death to heart failure while sleeping.

Speaking to Vanguard, Abdul shared a phone message from second son of the deceased who reportedly claimed his father died in his sleep as a result of heart failure.

The message which Abdul shared with Vanguard reads as follows:

“Mustapha K. Abdul (Director Human Resource Management, NECO).

“Dear Sir, this is to formally inform you that my father, Prof. Godswill Obioma, the Registrar/Chief Executive of NECO passed to eternal glory yesterday 31/5/2021 after a brief illness.

“We request that you kindly notify the Board, Management and the entire staff of the Council of this development.

“We shall keep you duly informed.”

Some close associates of the deceased believe he could have been targeted following the probe of NECO’s finances of the administration of the Registrar Prof Obioma took over from, by the National Assembly, wherein it is believed that he might spill the beans.

However, police investigation will reveal the true cause of death.
