 Obiano Meets EFCC Bail Conditions

…as Senator offers to stand as his guarantor

Hope of freedom rose on Wednesday for former Governor of Anambra State, Chief Willie Obiano, as he spent one week in the custody of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Obiano, who is accused of misappropriating the sum of N42 billion, was arrested at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos shortly after handing over to Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo in Awka last Thursday, March 17.

EFCC Chairman Mr. Abdulrasheed Bawa later announced that Obiano had been granted bail but was still with them because he was yet to meet his bail conditions.

Rising to the rescue, the Senator representing Anambra North District, Princess Stella Odua, earlier today announced that she had offered to stand as guarantor for Obiano, adding that the former governor is from her senatorial district.

A report by New Telegraph quoted former National Chairman of Obiano’s party, the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Senator Victor Umeh, as confirming the development. Umeh, according to the report, disclosed that the verification process at the First City Monument Bank would have been concluded on Tuesday but would be concluded Wednesday in line with the stipulations of EFCC.
