Former Deputy President of the 9th Senate and NDC candidate for Delta Central Senatorial District, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, has alleged that armed men linked to the Delta State Government attacked members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in Usiefrun, Ughelli South Local Government Area.
Omo-Agege, in a statement dated August 14, 2026, said the incident occurred on Thursday, August 13, during the NDC’s tour of Delta Central Senatorial District.
According to him, the attackers opened fire on NDC supporters who had gathered to welcome his delegation, alleging that he was the primary target of the attack.
He said six NDC members sustained injuries in the incident, identifying some of the victims as Believe Biadoyo, Joshua Oghenetega Oyibocha, Owhos Peter and Ojiyovwin Dennis.
Omo-Agege alleged that eyewitness accounts and video evidence had identified four persons as masterminds of the attack: Hon. Simon Mudi, also known as “Temple,” a Protocol Officer to Governor Sheriff Oborevwori; Flash Oghenetega Origbon; Ochuko Origbon; and Alex Awherhurho.
He alleged that the four individuals are members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Delta State.
The NDC candidate recalled that on July 29, he had raised concerns over what he described as increasing political violence in the state, citing previous incidents involving Hon. Temple Mudi at the Petroleum Training Institute (PTI), Effurun, and an alleged assault on NDC governorship candidate Deacon Chris Iyovwaye in Agholokpe.
He said the Usiefrun incident had reinforced his earlier warning of a coordinated campaign of violence ahead of the 2027 elections.
“This is no longer politics. It is a well-orchestrated campaign of violence and attempted murder,” Omo-Agege said.
He, however, urged members of the NDC and other residents not to retaliate, insisting that the party would continue its ward-to-ward campaign across Delta Central.
Omo-Agege called on the Inspector-General of Police and the Delta State Commissioner of Police to investigate the incident and take action against those allegedly responsible.
He also demanded the immediate arrest and prosecution of Mudi, Origbon and Awherhurho, while calling on the Delta State Government to suspend and hand over any government appointee linked to the attack.
He further urged the police, Department of State Services (DSS) and other relevant authorities to treat the alleged attacks in Agholokpe, Effurun and Usiefrun as connected incidents.
The NDC candidate also called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), civil society organisations and the international community to deploy observers to Delta Central, which he described as unsafe.
Omo-Agege gave Governor Oborevwori 48 hours to publicly condemn the attack and ensure that arrests were made, warning that failure to do so would be viewed as complicity.
The senator said the NDC would not be intimidated by the incident, pledging that its campaign activities would continue across the state.
“We will continue to reach every ward. Violence will not stop us. We will win on our ideas and our record, because Delta deserves capable leadership,” he said.
The allegations contained in the statement had not been independently verified at the time of publication. The persons accused by Omo-Agege were also not given an opportunity to respond to the allegations in the statement.
Signed by Omo-Agege, the statement described the Usiefrun incident as an “assault on our democracy” and called for an end to political violence in Delta State.
