Op Hadin Kai narrates how coordinated suicide bombings rocked Maiduguri, reaffirm commitment to safeguard lives and property
Multiple suicide bomb explosions struck the Maiduguri metropolis on Monday evening, leaving several casualties and triggering heightened security measures across the city.
The incidents, which occurred at about 7:05 p.m. during the Iftar period, targeted crowded locations within the Maiduguri Metropolitan Council. The affected areas include the Post Office vicinity, the Monday Market axis, and the entrance to the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital.
According to the Headquarters Joint Task Force (North East) Operation HADIN KAI, the attacks were carried out by suspected Boko Haram suicide bombers who detonated improvised explosive devices in a coordinated manner, apparently aimed at inflicting mass casualties and instilling fear among residents.
Security forces, comprising troops of Operation HADIN KAI, the Nigeria Police Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) unit, and other agencies, responded swiftly by securing and cordoning off the affected areas to prevent further damage.
Emergency responders, including personnel from the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and medical teams, promptly evacuated victims to nearby health facilities such as the General Hospital, Specialist Hospital, and the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital, where the injured are currently receiving treatment.
Preliminary findings suggest that multiple suicide bombers may have been deployed into the city as part of a coordinated attack plan. In response, security agencies have intensified surveillance, patrols, and counter-improvised explosive device (IED) operations across Maiduguri to track down any remaining suspects and forestall further attacks.
Authorities have urged residents to remain calm but vigilant, avoid crowded places where possible, and report any suspicious activities or unattended items to security agencies.
Operation HADIN KAI extended its condolences to the families of victims, reaffirming its commitment, alongside other security agencies, to safeguarding lives and property while continuing efforts to neutralize terrorist elements responsible for the attacks. (Security Digest)
