Reggae Star Fantan Mojah to Be Laid to Rest August 13
Wake holds Wednesday as fans prepare to bid farewell to Jamaican roots reggae icon
The family of Jamaican reggae singer Fantan Mojah has announced that the celebrated entertainer will be buried on Thursday, August 13, following his death last month at the age of 49.
A wake for the late singer, whose real name was Owen Moncrieffe, will be held on Wednesday, August 12, at 7 p.m. at Rebel T HQ, 52 Dumbarton Avenue, Kingston 10.
His funeral service is scheduled for 11 a.m. the following day at the University Chapel on the University of the West Indies (UWI), Mona campus.
Fantan Mojah died on July 14 at the University Hospital of the West Indies following complications associated with a heart condition.
The singer was widely recognised for his distinctive roots reggae sound, powerful vocals and socially conscious lyrics, which earned him a strong following in Jamaica and among reggae audiences around the world.
His music, which often explored spirituality, social issues and the struggles of everyday life, established him as a notable voice in the roots reggae movement.
His death has sparked tributes from fans and members of the reggae community, who have continued to celebrate his musical contributions and enduring influence.
As family, friends and fans prepare to gather for his final farewell, Fantan Mojah’s music is expected to remain a lasting part of the reggae tradition.
