Jacob Miller (l) and Bob Marley (r).

Jacob “Killer” Miller was born on 04 April, 1952 in Mandeville and the age of eight he moved to Kingston where he was raised by his maternal grandparents. His move to Kingston would prove to be a seminal event in his life, as Miller began spending much of his time at recording studios around the city, most notably Clement “Sir #Coxsone” Dodd’s now-famous #StudioOne for who he recorded three songs in 1968.
When the Swaby brothers launched their own label in 1972, Miller recorded five songs for them, “Baby I Love You So”, “False Rasta”, “Who Say Jah No Dread”, “Each One Teach One”, and “Girl Named Pat”, each of which became a #Rockers classic with #KingTubby dubs on their b-sides. These singles developed Miller’s reputation as a great singer, and their success ultimately drew #InnerCircle to hire him as a replacement lead singer. Their first hit with Jacob Miller was “Tenement Yard”, followed by “Tired Fi Lick Weed In a Bush”.
Jacob Miller
Miller was featured in the film Rockers, alongside many other musicians including #GregoryIsaacs, #BigYouth and #BurningSpear.
He notably appeared at the #OneLovePeaceConcert, which took place at the National Stadium in #Kingston, #Jamaica on 22 April 1978, along with many of the most popular Reggae acts of the day, including #BobMarley, Peter Tosh, #BunnyWailer, U-Roy, #JudyMowatt, Dennis Emmanuel Brown , and others. While performing his set, he brazenly donned a policeman’s hat and fired up an enormous spliff, to the delight of the audience. His set is featured prominently in the concert documentary film Heartland Reggae, which chronicles the historical event.
In March 1980, Jacob Miller went with Bob Marley and #IslandRecords founder #ChrisBlackwell to Brazil, to celebrate Island opening new offices in South America. Not long after returning to Jamaica Sunday, on March 1980, Miller and one of his sons died in a vehicle accident on Hope Road in Kingston, Jamaica. He was only 27.
